Behind the science – Of Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler + Volume-Lift

Skin’s structure changes as we age: fine lines and wrinkles appear first and deepen over time. As we continue to mature skin’s volume and firmness, radiance and, later on, its elasticity all gradually reduce.

The Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler + Volume Lift range has been specially formulated to address a loss of volume, less defined facial contours, sagging skin and the deepening of wrinkles. The formula combines three actives – Magnolol, Oglio Peptides, and Hyaluronic Acid – to plump up deep wrinkles and redefine facial contours for a lifting effect and skin that is noticeably smoother and firmer.

As we age, our hormones decline and volume-giving cells decrease in both size and number leading to a loss in volume and less defined facial contours. As well as sagging, our skin becomes more prone to dryness and wrinkles deepen. It also loses some of the radiance associated with young skin.

“Aging is entirely natural and there’s little we can do about the internal factors such as genetics and hormones that lead to volume loss,” explains Andrea Schölermann, MD, Clinical Study Advisor Eucerin. “But there are many external factors that play a role in volume loss too and we believe that a holistic approach to skincare, and a daily skincare routine using the right products, can help to manage and reduce the impact of these external factors on skin.”

Sagging skin and loss of facial definition is a common skin aging concern but, invasive dermatological treatments aside, there were few topical products that dealt specifically with the issue. Andrea and her team set out to address this.

The challenge in developing Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler + Volume-Lift was to identify active ingredients that would target the multiple causes of diminishing volume, redefine facial contours for a lifting effect while also plumping up deep wrinkles.

“Our research focused on how to slow the processes that lead to a loss of volume in skin,” says Andrea. “The starting point was a naturally-derived ingredient called Magnolol,” she adds. “It comes from the bark of the Magnolia tree and in-vitro studies have proven that it’s highly effective at increasing collagen synthesis and the size and number of volume-giving cells in the dermal layer of our skin”.

The team then looked at ingredients that might help to strengthen skin structure. “As we age, and as cell regeneration and collagen production start to slow down, this naturally diminishes,” Dr Schölermann explains. “We tested a variety of peptides and chose Oligo Peptides that are extracted from the Anise fruit. This specific type of naturally derived peptide has the ability to stimulate and support collagen production. It enhances skin’s metabolism, reactivates skin cell interactions and helps to strengthen connective tissue.”

The Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler + Volume-Filler formula is further enriched with Hyaluronic Acid. “It’s an excellent moisturizer,” explains Dr. Schölermann. “Adding it to our formula helps us to improve skin hydration, smooth skin and plump up deep wrinkles. By combining these three active ingredients into a powerful formula, we were able to develop a product range that works on the multiple factors responsible for the loss of natural volume.”

The range has been clinically and dermatologically proven to target the specific layers of the skin where this loss of volume occurs. Magnolol increases the size and number of volume-giving cells¹, Oligo Peptides strengthen the collagen network ¹ and Hyaluronic Acid boosts skin moisture and plumps up deep wrinkles.

The range includes day creams, a night cream and an eye cream. “Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler + Volume-Lift helps to tackle a loss of volume, lifts skin and visibly reduces deep wrinkles,” concludes Dr Schölermann. “The range provides a topical alternative to invasive treatments and can also be used in conjunction with dermatological treatments to extend results.”
